The Holy Grail War is a ritual. Mages summon a Heroic Spirit from the Grail when the war begins, contracting with them so that they become Master and Servant. There are seven classes a Servant can be; mine is Rider. The other classes are Saber, Archer, Lancer, Assassin, Caster, and Berserker. In the war I was fighting, we had two teams of seven Servants fighting against one another, with a special class, Ruler, overseeing everything.

Whoever wins gets the Grail. The Holy Grail can grant whatever wish you make and that's why we fight.
